Barbara Evans Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Simpson Funeral Home - Carl Junction on Jan. 19, 2026.
Barbara June Evans, age 83 of Carl Junction, passed away peacefully at her home on January 18th, 2026, with her family by her side. Born on July 15th, 1942, in Joplin, Barbara was a proud resident of Carl Junction for her entire life. A smart, loyal, and resilient woman, her life was a testament to her unwavering dedication to her family, her community, and her faith.

Barbara's life was filled with a deep love for her family, meaningful work, and joyful hobbies. She married Jimmie Evans on December 20, 1959, who preceded her in death. Together, they had two children, Jimmie and Michelle. Barbara was a dedicated lunch lady at the Carl Junction School District for over 35 years, retiring in 2008 but leaving behind a legacy of service and commitment. Whether it was dancing at the Hootenanny, playing dominoes or marbles, or enjoying a lively game of Bingo at the VFW, Barbara found enjoyment in a wide variety of activities.

As a long-time member of the Rooted Church (formerly the First Baptist Church of Carl Junction), her faith was paramount, guiding her life's decisions and actions. Barbara's dedication to her community was recognized with the Jim Wisdom award for her steadfast dedication in founding the Bluegrass Festival of Carl Junction.

Barbara embodied the essence of perseverance, a trait reflected in her membership of the Perseverance ATA lodge #160. She was a great servant to others and was resilient through life's challenges. Barbara served four terms on the Board of Alderman for the City of Carl Junction, always striving to better the city she loved so much.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Osa Wilbur and Thelma Louise Shira; a sister Linda Hayes; and a twin brother Bobbie Gene. She is survived by her children, Jimmie (Marissa) Evans of Joplin and Michelle McCoy of Carl Junction; grandchildren Erin (Brad) Chism of Bryant, AR, Mitchell Arehart of Carl Junction, Marlee (Travis) Martin of Peoria, OK, Lauren (Quinten) Fleshmen of Carl Junction, and Jamie Evans of Oronogo; and eleven great-grandchildren.

The family welcomes the community to a Visitation at Simpson Funeral Home in Carl Junction (101 N. Main St, Carl Junction) on Friday, January 23rd, 2026 from 6-8PM. Her life will be celebrated at the Rooted Church (302 S. Main St, Carl Junction) on Saturday, January 31st, 2026 at 11AM with her pastors Rodney Rambo and Brian Simmons. Following the service, Barbara will be laid to rest at the Carl Junction Cemetery.
