Barbara (Herrington) Farney, 88, of Golinda, TX, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, January 29, 2026.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. February 4th at Pecan Grove Funeral Home with Pastor John Rainey of Southside Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Robinson Cemetery. There will be a visitation one hour prior to service beginning at 10 a.m.
Barbara was born in Temple, Texas, to Otis Ed and Willie Ethel (Carnes) Herrington on October 8, 1937. She attended Chilton Schools, graduating from Chilton High School. After graduating from high school, Barbara attended Four C Business College. She then went on to work several years for The Behrens Drug Company in Waco.
Over the years, Barbara worked as an administrative assistant for various principals at Bells Hill Elementary School, Sul Ross Elementary, Woodway Elementary, and Rosenthal 6th Grade campus within Robinson ISD. At Rosenthal, she had the opportunity to work with principals Mr. Buster Curlee, Mrs. Betty Penny, and Mr. Tom Gerick. During her time at Rosenthal, Barbara served as campus secretary, later transitioning to campus librarian. Barbara enjoyed her years working in the schools and touched many students’ lives. Just being there for a child who needed a snack, someone to listen to their troubles, offer words of encouragement, or lend a shoulder to cry on; Barbara was there for those who needed something extra. She was more than the school secretary.
Barbara married Bobby Bryant Farney of Chilton, Texas on September 14, 1956. She and Bobby lived in the Robinson area until 1965, when they built and moved into their present home in Golinda.
After retirement, Barbara and Bobby took two very special vacation trips. One of which was a 50th wedding anniversary trip to Hawaii; the other was an Alaskan cruise. Barbara and granddaughter Megan embarked on a Canadian Railway excursion that created lasting memories for both.
Besides traveling, Barbara enjoyed working with her potted flowers. She made sure she had plants that would attract the butterflies and hummingbirds.
Barbara’s favorite role was as Memaw to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Whether she was spending time with them at home, picking them up from school, or taking someone to a rehearsal or practice, Memaw was ready. She always had drinks and snacks with her, was willing to play with play-doh, color, build with blocks, tell stories, and sometimes she’d have a project she wanted you to do or help her do. She had strong supervisory skills and was always willing to help.
Barbara is preceded in death by her parents Otis Ed and Willie Ethel Herrington of Golinda; and her cherished husband of 64 years, Bobby Bryant Farney.
Left to honor her memory are son, Joe Marc Farney and wife Debbie of Golinda; daughter, Donita Densmore and husband Brett of Gordonville, TX; granddaughter, Megan (Farney) Ferrell and husband Spencer of Rosenthal; grandson, Matt Farney of Golinda; grandson, Devin Densmore; and great-granddaughters, Brynnleigh Pearl Ferrell, Brecklynne Ray Ferrell; great grandson Brantley Darren Ferrell; Barbara’s sister Linda (Herrington) Farrell and husband Robert of Gatesville; nephew Trent Farrell and wife Tricia of Gatesville; niece Shawna and husband Lange Allen of Fair Oaks; along with grandnieces; grandnephews.
