Barbara Susan Fischer, age 86, of Michigan City, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Jan. 15, 2026. She was born in Michigan City on Sept. 11, 1939, to Leonard and Ruby (Batzel) Killingbeck, who preceded her in death.
Barbara is survived by her brother, David K. Fritz; and nieces and nephews, Scott (Kathleen) Ebert, Susan Pytynia, Mark Fritz, Eric Fritz, Susan Wallen, Michelle Buford, Matthew Fritz and Daniel Fritz.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Bruce N. Fischer, who she married on Aug. 26, 1961, and that passed away in March of 2022; and her brother, Randall Fritz.
Barbara was a lifetime avid antique collector with a deep appreciation for history and craftsmanship. She loved sewing and creating handmade items – especially quilts – for church bazaars, where her work was shared and cherished by many. She found great joy working in her garden, tending to flowers and plants with care and pride. Barbara was a lifetime member of St. Luke United Church, where her faith was an important part of her life and service to others. Above all, she was a devoted and loving wife to her husband, Bruce, sharing a life built on love, dedication and faith.
Memorial contributions may be made in Barbara's honor to St. Luke United Lutheran Church in Michigan City, Indiana.
Friends may visit with the family at Geisen-Carlisle Funeral Home, located at 613 Washington St., Michigan City, Indiana, on Thursday, Jan. 22, 2026, from 2 to 4 p.m.

I was so sad to read of Barbara´s passing. We worked together at the Metropolitan Life office on Franklin Street 1963-1965. She was a wonderful person and was someone I could count on at work for advice. I always admired her and was inspired by her. Condolences to her family.
