Barbara Flanagan Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ruland Funeral Home, Inc. - Patchogue on Jan. 18, 2026.
Barbara Margaret Flanagan, lovingly known to her family as "Grammy," was born on August 11, 1932, in Brooklyn, New York, and passed away peacefully on January 18, 2026, at the age of 93. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Barbara's life was defined by her deep love for family, her gentle nature, and her unwavering belief in the importance of kindness and understanding.

Barbara graduated from Dominican Commercial High School in June 1949. She married the love of her life, Edward Thomas Flanagan, on February 23, 1952, and together they built a home filled with warmth and laughter until Edward's passing on November 3, 2016. Their union of more than six decades was a testament to enduring love and faith.

The proud matriarch of a growing family, Barbara found her greatest joy in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her son, Edward Flanagan, daughter in law Peggy Flanagan and daughter Susan Wrinkle, son in law William Wrinkle, daughter Barbara Camilleri, son in law Kenneth Camilleri, daughter Mary Beth Ahern and her late son in law Dennis Ahern. Her legacy lives on through her 16 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren, each of whom carries a piece of her grace and wisdom.

Barbara's defining qualities-graciousness, love, honesty, and dependability-guided everyone fortunate enough to know her. She believed deeply in the power of listening and in being present for others in their joys and sorrows alike.

A woman of many passions, Barbara delighted in reading, cooking for her family, crocheting, and, as those who knew her can attest, enjoying a good shopping trip. Her presence filled every room with warmth and care, and her absence will be felt deeply by all whose lives she touched.

Barbara's family takes comfort in knowing she is reunited with her beloved Edward and will always remain "Grammy" in their hearts.Visiting for Mrs. Flanagan will take place on Wednesday (January 21st) from 2-4PM & 7-9PM at the Ruland Funeral Home in Patchogue. On Thursday, January 22nd at 10:30AM, a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Mount Carmel RC Church in Patchogue, NY. Interment to follow in St. Charles Cemetery in Farmingdale.
