Barbara Ann Fromm, 80, of King of Prussia, a retired caregiver and devoted wife of Walter, passed away peacefully on October 17 after a long illness.
Barbara was born on October 14, 1944, to Paul and Bertha Hansell in Norristown, PA. After graduating from Bishop Kenrick High School in 1962, she went on to study briefly at Harcum Junior College in Bryn Mawr, PA, and worked as a Customer Service Representative at Allstate Insurance in Wayne, PA.
In November 1966, Barbara met Walter at the Lock, Stock, and Barrel, a former lounge in Paoli, PA. Their first date together was at the Army Navy Game later that month, and they married on April 27, 1968. Barbara and Walter went on to have three children, Walter, Jr., Melissa (Dollarton), and Aimee. She was also blessed with two grandchildren, Conor and Maeve Dollarton, whom she spoiled endlessly.
In 1976, after Aimee's brief illness left her with a disability, Barbara began her 36 year long career as Aimee's personal caregiver. Over that time, through chemotherapy treatment for Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma, and a torn rotator cuff, Barbara worked daily to ensure Aimee flourished and had a vibrant life, until Aimee passed away unexpectedly in December 2011. Their relationship was much more than mother and daughter. When Aimee thrived, Barbara thrived, and she took pride in ensuring Aimee had a meaningful life.
Barbara had many passions and hobbies: she loved to arrange flowers and created the arrangements for both Walter and Melissa's weddings, as well as those of several members of the extended family. She would make many pounds of handmade candy each Easter to give to friends and family as gifts. She loved to sing and was a member of the choir at Saint Augustine's Church, as well as the Valley Forge Chorale where she thrilled the family with her performances in Carmina Burana, and several Christmas Concerts. She also loved to decorate her home for all the seasons of the year and to host holiday dinner celebrations for the family.
Barbara was preceded in death by Aimee; her loving son-in-law, Stephen Dollarton; her sister, Constance; and her parents Paul and Bertha. She is survived by her husband, Walter; son Walter, Jr. and his wife, Nannette; daughter, Melissa; grandchildren, Conor and Maeve Dollarton; a brother, Paul and his wife, Barbara; and a sister, Paula and her husband, Albert.
Barbara's viewing will be held at Sacred Heart Church, 120 Jefferson St. Bridgeport, PA on Wednesday, October 23 from 9:30-10:15am; followed immediately by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30am. Interment will be in Saint Augustine's cemetery, King of Prussia.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Philadelphia https://ssjphila.org/support-our-mission/donate/, a community Barbara felt strongly about.
Arrangements are by The Bacchi Funeral Home & Crematory, Bridgeport, PA.
