Barbara J Geiger, a dedicated registered nurse and beloved family member, passed away peacefully on January 3, 2026, at the age of 77. Born on December 5, 1948, Barbara spent her life serving others, most notably as a nurse at Bethesda North, where her compassionate care left a lasting impact on many.
Throughout her life, Barbara exhibited a profound love for her family and friends, demonstrating her giving nature in all she did. She was especially cherished by her children, Tammy (Peter) Lavalette, Christopher (Marianne) Geiger, and Tommy (Jennifer) Geiger. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, Kate, Daniel, and Caroline Lavalette, Casey (David) Kortanek, Ivy Hendricks, Gabriel Geiger, and Kenneth Clay, and her great-grandchildren, Starlit, Marik, Delilah and Alexianne.
Barbara was known for her quirky personality, which made her easy to get to know and engage with. She enjoyed feeding fish, taking care of her garden, and watching television. Decorating for the holidays brought her great joy, and her home was often filled with warmth and cheer. She embraced life with a philosophy that if she looked good, she felt good, and she took good care of both herself and her neighbors on Pondfield Lane.
Her education culminated in a bachelor's degree in nursing, which prepared her for not just her career in health care but also for her proudest accomplishments, such as a mission trip to Ecuador in 2007, where she served as a nurse. Barbara was also known affectionately as "Barb the Builder," as she learned to use power tools later in life, showcasing her innovative spirit and determination.
Barbara is survived by her two brothers, Daniel Fangmeyer and James Allen (Mary Ann) Fangmeyer, and a sister-in-law, Edna Rose Fangmeyer. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Robert Fangmeyer, Jr. and Jerome Fangmeyer, and her parents, Robert and Romilda (nee Metzler) Fangmeyer.
She will be deeply missed by her family and friends, who honor her memory and the love she showered upon those around her.
