Barbara Jean Giles went home to be with her Lord on December 24, 2024, in Oak Park Illinois. Barbara Jean was born April 26, 1945, in Saginaw, Michigan to Albert Sr. and Caron Haynes.
Barbara accepted Christ at an early age. She was baptized at Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church in Saginaw, Michigan, and was a member of Rock of Ages Baptist Church in Maywood, Illinois.
Barbara graduated from Saginaw High School Class of 1963. She continued her education graduating from Delta College and receiving her associate’s degree. Barbara was employed at Dow Chemical Company in Midland Michigan and Washington DC before graduating from the University of Michigan with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. She moved to Chicago in 1975 after college and was employed by the Container Corporation in Human Resources. Barbara later worked as an Associate Editor for Shop Talk Magazine. She served as Grant Compliance Director for Rainbow Push Coalition and was a Chicago NAACP member. Barbara Jean loved Chicago.
Barbara loved shopping, reading, listening to music, watching MSNBC News, and more shopping.
Barbara leaves to cherish her memory one Son, Trevor J. Giles, Chicago, Illinois; two brothers, Pastor Albert Jr. (Brenda) Haynes and Gerald (Patricia) Kariem, Saginaw, Michigan; one sister, Helen Ann Haynes, Saginaw, Michigan; special sisters/cousins, Evelyn Strum, Georgia, China Fryer, Chicago, and Sylvia Reed; brother/cousin, Terry (Janice) Reed Sr., both of Saginaw; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents Albert Sr. and Caron Haynes.
The family wishes to express special thanks to Rush Hospital Staff. West Suburban Cancer Center Staff, Dr. Isoken Koko, Dr. Carolyn Fitzpatrick, Care provider Imelda, and neighbor, Nancy Broderson.
