Barbara F. Gruver, 95, of Peoria formerly of Washington, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 24, 2025 at Lutheran Hillside Village in Peoria.

She was born July 7, 1930 to Rollyn and Fern (Tucker) Comstock. She married Howard Monroe on June 25, 1948. He preceded her in death in June of 1976. She later married James Gruver on July 11, 1987. He survives.

Also surviving are one son, Howard McKinley Monroe; one daughter, Cathy Monroe Bandeko; five grandchildren and many great and great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Howard Monroe; daughter, Laura Monroe Bellfield; grandson, Johnny Clutters; two brothers, Everad Comstock and Rollyn "JR" Comstock; and sister, Betty Comstock Burwell.

Barbara loved her job at Washington Community High School retiring in 2008 after 34 years of service. She also enjoyed working at Szold's Department Store in Cherry Tree shopping center in Washington. She was a devoted Cubs fan and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She will be dearly missed.

Per her wishes, cremation has been accorded. Her graveside service will be at 10am Saturday, August 30th at Glendale Cemetery in Washington. Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington is assisting the family with arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Lutheran Hillside Village Benevolent Fund or Rett Foundation in honor of her great-great-granddaughter, Josie Roberts.
