Beloved sister, aunt, great aunt, and great-great aunt;

Barbara A. (Carney) Hannafin of Goffstown, New Hampshire, passed away peacefully on March 18, 2026, at the age of 83 years old.

She was born in Lowell, Massachusetts, on December 13, 1942, Barbara was originally from the "Acre" neighborhood of Lowell. She attended St. Patrick's Catholic School for Girls. She was the daughter of the late John F. Carney and the late Mary Etta (Flanagan) Carney. Barbara lived much of her life in Lowell, Massachusetts, where she built lasting friendships and cherished memories.

After taking ill in February 2025, Barbara moved to Goffstown, New Hampshire, where she made her home with her niece, Karen, who lovingly cared for her. Prior to her retirement, Barbara worked for over 40 years at Fairhaven Nursing Home in Lowell, Massachusetts, first as a nursing assistant and later in the Activities Department. Earlier in her career, she worked at other care facilities, and in her younger years, she worked in the mills in Lowell.

Among her many interests, Barbara enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, going to the beach, visiting casinos, dining out, and taking cruises to Alaska, New Orleans, Bermuda, and many other destinations. She also shared a close and loving bond with Bleu, affectionately known as "her roommate," the family dog.

Barbara is survived by her brother, John P. Carney of Hudson, New Hampshire; her nieces, Karen A. Hastings and her husband Scott of Goffstown, New Hampshire, Colleen Carney and her partner Scott of Hudson, New Hampshire; Barbara M. Gendron of Hudson, New Hampshire and her partner John, Joanne Desharnais and her husband Kevin of Londonderry, New Hampshire, Johnna Cayer and her husband Dan of Methuen, Massachusetts, her nephews, Larry Carney and his wife Theary of Lowell, Massachusetts, and Shane Carney of Lowell, Massachusetts. Barbara is also survived by six great-nieces, eight great-nephews, and several great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Robert J. Hannafin; her brothers, Lawrence W. Carney, Francis M. "Mickey" Carney, and James E. Carney; all of Lowell, Massachusetts, and her companion George E. MacShane also of Lowell, Massachusetts.

Barbara's family would also like to extend their sincere thanks to the staff of Elliot Hospital in Manchester, New Hampshire, for the care and compassion shown to her and to her family.

Friends may call for her Visitation on Friday, March 27, 2026, at O'DONNELL FUNERAL HOME in LOWELL from 9 to 10:30 A.M. followed by her Funeral Mass to be celebrated at ST. PATRICK CHURCH in LOWELL at 11:00 A.M. Her burial will follow at St. Patrick Cemetery. E-condolences/directions at www.odonnellfuneralhome.com.
