Barbara Gail Chubb was born July 25, 1962, in Valentine, NE to Leo and Iris (Miller) Chubb.
All her schooling was in Valentine, NE where she graduated in 1981. She participated in volleyball, cheerleading, was a baton twirler in the band, and excelled in track and field where she received many medals. She attended Chadron State College and graduated with an associate's degree in business. During the school year and summer breaks she worked as a waitress and in the business department at the First National Bank in Valentine.
She married her high school sweetheart James J. Harms on October 23, 1983. She moved to the Harms family ranch, where they have lived ever since. They were blessed with two children, John & Heather.
She spent the early years as a busy ranch wife and stay-at-home mother. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, and cooking. In 1992 she was diagnosed with kidney failure, with an unknown cause. She received her first transplant in 1997. After that kidney wore out, she received a second transplant in 2004. That kidney eventually wore out as well and her third transplant was on August 1st, 2024.
Barbara passed away August 10, 2024, at the University Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, NE. She was preceded in death by her parents Leo & Iris Chubb. Barbara is survived by her husband James Harms of Valentine, NE. Son John (Alicia) Harms and daughter Heather (Kody) Mizner. Grandchildren Hunter, Kayleigh, and Sophia Harms, and Waylon Mizner all of Valentine. And sister Susan Custer of Alliance, NE. Memorials maybe made to the Valentine dialysis unit, Valentine Methodist Church or 4-H.
Funeral service for Barb Harms, age 62 of Valentine will be held on Monday, August 19th at 10:30 AM at the Valentine Methodist Church. The burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Sunday, August 18th, starting a 2 PM at Sandoz Chapel of the Pines in Valentine. Barb passed away on August 10, 2024, in Omaha.
