POUGHQUAG- Barbara Harris, 89, an area resident since 2009, died peacefully on January 13, 2026 at the Fishkill Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing. She previously lived in Somers and Harrison.

Born on June 19, 1936 in New Rochelle, NY, Barbara was the daughter of the late John and Mary (Angelillo) McGourty. She retired as a Registered Nurse after working at St. Vincent's Hospital in New York City, St. Agnes Hospital in White Plains and for an oncology practice in White Plains. On September 12, 1959 in Mamaroneck, Barbara married William Harris, who predeceased her on April 4, 2013 after 53 years of marriage.

She was a devout Catholic whose faith guided every aspect of her life. She liked to read, knit, and bake. Barbara looked forward every year to time spent on Cape Cod. Above all, she loved her family and cherished the time she spent with them.

Barbara is survived by her children and their spouses, John and Lois Harris, Paul and Kathy Harris, Thomas and Jenifer Harris, and Kristin and Thomas McLoughlin; her grandchildren, Jenna, Kelsey, Andrew, Hayley, Alice, Jake, and Billy; her brother, Bob Savitt and his wife Carol; and her beloved cousins.

Calling hours will be held at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction on Monday, January 19th from 9:30 - 11:00 am. A Mass of Christian Burial is being offered at 11:30 am at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Junction followed by burial at St. Denis Cemetery.
