Barbara A. Hartl, born on January 8, 1965, in Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away on October 9, 2025, in Greenfield, Indiana, surrounded by her loving family and best friend. Barbara's life was a testament to hard work and a deep commitment to both her profession and her loved ones.
For 41 years, Barbara dedicated herself to the Sheet Metal Worker Union, where her tenacity and strong work ethic earned her the respect of her colleagues and friends. Colleagues who had the privilege of working alongside her often remarked on her strength and determination, qualities that mirrored her vibrant personality outside of work.
Barbara was not only known for her professional achievements but also for her warm and loving nature. She was a devoted wife to Mark Hartl, with whom she shared a bond that was deepened by mutual respect and admiration. Mark described her as “a saint,” reflecting the selflessness and strong faith that guided her life. Together, they created cherished memories, hosting Labor Day and Fourth of July parties at their home and enjoying family trips to Hilton Head Island S.C..
She is survived by her loving husband, Mark Hartl; her beloved children, Lindsay and Tyler Hartl; and her siblings, Cindy (Tom) Gerlach, Tony (Ruth Ann) Hofmann, Ann (Paul) Schmitzer, Matt (Marlo) Hofmann, Deb (Robert) Black and Linda Demaree and a proud aunt to her 13 nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents David and Elizabeth "Betty" Hofmann.
Barbara's interests were diverse and reflected her zest for life. She loved traveling, enjoyed the thrill of gambling, especially slots—and held a special affection for her loyal dog, Duke. Perhaps her most defining characteristic was her unconditional love for her family, which remained her proudest accomplishment throughout her life.
Barbara A. Hartl's memory will forever be etched in the hearts of all who knew her. She was a loving, strong fighter whose spirit and kindness will be deeply missed.
