In Loving Memory of Barbara Jean (Martin) Hatem
July 30, 1951 – October 25, 2026
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Barbara Jean (Martin) Hatem on October 25, 2026.
Barbara was a sweet and loving woman whose smile could light up a room. She had a quick wit and a wonderful sense of humor that brought laughter and joy to those around her. Her warmth touched everyone who knew her, and she leaves behind countless cherished memories for the people who loved her.
Barbara spent much of her life in New York, where she made countless memories and shared meaningful moments with the people she loved. She moved to Virginia two years ago, beginning a new chapter of life while carrying with her a lifetime memories, friendships and love from New York.
One of Barbara's greatest joys was the life she shared with her beloved husband, Fred Hatem, whom she loved dearly. Together, they enjoyed casino hopping and making memories as they shared life's adventures side by side. Their love was a treasured part of Barbara's life, and although Fred preceded her in death, the bond they shared will always be remembered. There is comfort in imagining them reunited once again.
Barbara had an immense love for animals, which held a special place in her heart, especially her beloved cat, Tucker. She also loved music, particularly listening to Elvis, whose songs brought her great joy.
Left to cherish Barbara's memory are her loving daughter, Katie DeLeon; her son-in-law, PJ DeLeon; her sons-in-law, Brian and Kevin Hatem; her sister, Mary Ellen, who loved her dearly and will miss her deeply; her niece, Megan; and her numerous grandchildren, who will carry her memory in their hearts. Her and Fred's family in New York, who loved Barbara deeply and will forever cherish the memories and special bond they shared with her.
Barbara was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Fred Hatem; her sister, Margaret (Tom) Hughes; and her parents.
Barbara's passing leaves a space that can never truly be filled. Her sweet nature, beautiful smile, quick wit, and great sense of humor, along with her love for her family, friends, and animals, will never be forgotten. She touched the lives of those around her in her own special way, and her memory will live on in the hearts of everyone fortunate enough to have known and loved her.
May Barbara rest peacefully, reunited with her beloved Fred, with Elvis playing in the background and surrounded once more by the everlasting love she gave and received throughout her life.
