Barbara Jean Hazelrigg, a beloved matriarch, passed away on March 4, 2026, in Lee's Summit, Missouri, at the age of 92. Born on December 1, 1933, in Kansas City, Missouri, Barbara was a vibrant spirit whose warmth and kindness touched the lives of many.
Barbara dedicated much of her life to nurturing her family and raising her children. She later embraced a part-time role as a retail associate at CVS when her children grew older, but her heart always remained rooted in her home and family. She attended William Chrisman High School but made the selfless decision to leave early to focus on family life.
She was a woman of many interests and talents. She took great pride in crocheting warm blankets for each new baby welcomed into the family. Barbara also enjoyed needlework, crafting, and gardening. She took great pride in nurturing her roses, hibiscus flowers, and vegetable garden. Her handy skills allowed her to meticulously maintain the home, ensuring everything ran smoothly, especially when her husband was unable to do so. Additionally, she had a deep appreciation for all animals, enjoying the simple pleasure of feeding the neighborhood squirrels. In her leisure time, she found joy in watching nature shows, as well as programs like CSI and Blue Bloods.
Perhaps her proudest accomplishments was her family and the special bond she shared with her grandbabies, who were the treasures of her life. As we remember Barbara may we celebrate a life that was filled with love, devotion, and a generous spirit. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of those she touched and in the memories she created.
Barbara is survived by her children, Gary Hazelrigg (Linda), Karen Gier, Brian Hazelrigg (Tricia), Mark Hazelrigg (Tammey) and Angela Emerson (Bryan); 10 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Herbert; and parents, John and Geneva (Luse) Olinger; and brother, Robert Ollinger.
Visitation will be held on March 18, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Speaks Suburban Chapel in Independence, Missouri, followed by the funeral service at 2pm. She will be laid to rest at Mount Washington Cemetery, 614 S Brookside Ave, Independence, Missouri.
