DATELINE: KINGS MOUNTAIN, NORTH CAROLINA
Barbara Mulwee Helms
Barbara Mulwee Helms, 76, of Kings Mountain, NC, passed away on June 24, 2025 at Atrium Cleveland Regional in Shelby, NC. She was born February 21, 1949 in Gaston County, NC, the only daughter of the late Baxter and Gladys Beatrice Barr Mulwee and was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Helms. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Traci Bolch O'Neal and her brothers, Joe, Bobby, and Dale Mulwee. Barbara, affectionately known as "Red" by her friends and family, worked in textiles most of her life and ended her working career with Danaher Tool Group. Barbara was first and foremost a mother. She not only raised her children, she raised a grandson and a great grandchild. Barbara was a wonderful caregiver and always placed others needs before her own. If Barbara knew you, you were loved unconditionally by her. Barbara was always willing to sacrifice of herself to make sure others had what they needed. She was the kind of mother every child needed. Like a lighthouse, Barbara's kindness and love was a beacon to all those she met. She enjoyed taking family trips to the coast and the mountains and loved playing bingo and word search puzzles. Barbara was always upbeat and never complained about any hardship she faced. She was a friend to everyone she met. Barbara looked forward to frequent visits from her dear friend and "special son", Richard Cogdill and the delicious R.O.'s BBQ he always brought her. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Cleveland Pines and especially to Barbara Massey, her "special daughter", for the wonderful and heartfelt care shown to Barbara. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother to 2 generations, and a wonderful friend to many. The love she had for others, her selfless giving of herself and her guidance will live on in the hearts of all those she touch for eternity.
