Mrs. Barbara Jean Mathis Hendrix, age 82, passed away Sunday, December 17th, 2023. She has gone home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. After a period of declining health, God in His ultimate kindness, has called His daughter home. Barbara has entered Heaven — dancing in a new body — free from all pain and suffering. She is now seeing her Heavenly Father face to face.
Barbara was a Forsyth County native and a lifelong active member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. Barbara loved gardening, riding her bicycle, being outside, “picking up limbs”, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She especially enjoyed cheering for her great-grandchildren at their ball games. She also loved Southern Gospel Music and spent many years attending “singings” and Quartet Conventions. Barbara will always be remembered as a loving “Mama” and “Nanny”. She provided a foundation of faith for her entire family — she believed in the power of prayer — and she knew Jesus like a friend.
Barbara is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, James “Frog” Hendrix (d. 2009). We believe that they are now together for eternity, enjoying the music and sounds of Heaven.
Barbara is also preceded in death by her parents, Mary Waldrip Mathis and Clyde Nathan Mathis, and her mother-in-law, Emma Lucille Hendrix.
Survivors include children Aron and Linda Hendrix, Diana and Tommy Martin, all of Cumming; grandchildren, Dustin and Heather Hendrix, Mitchell and Erica Hendrix, TJ Martin, and Austin Martin, all of Cumming; great-grandchildren, Dawson Roe, Xander Martin, Anslee Hendrix, Jacey Roe, James Hendrix, and Neil Hendrix, all of Cumming; siblings Margie Mathis, and Charles and Reta Mathis all of Cumming; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives, including her beloved Mr. Kitty Hendrix also survive.
The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thanks to the many caregivers that have lovingly cared for Barbara through the years, especially at the end of her life. Thank you, Anita Castleberry, Michelle Castleberry, Melissa Duke, Debbie Sams, Jennifer Miller, Sandy Walker, Sumer Buchanan, Wanda Echols, niece Lisa Whitmire Eason, and the nurses and staff from Agape Hospice. Your constant love and care for Barbara brought more comfort and joy than we could ever express. Our hearts are deeply grateful.
