Mrs. Barbara Nell Hodges, age 85, passed away on Monday, July 8, 2024. Mrs. Hodges was born in Claxton to the late Dewey Lee Gibson and Mattie Futch Gibson on September 3, 1938. She worked for over 30 years as a seamstress with several garment manufactures, the last being Claxton Manufacturing Company. Mrs. Hodges attended Beulah Baptist Church and enjoyed cooking, gardening, tending to her flowers, watching the birds in her yard and especially, spending time with her grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James B. Hodges of 55 years; six brothers, Joe Gibson, James Gibson, Harry Gibson, Rudolph Gibson, Ellis Gibson and Grover Lee Gibson; four sisters, Mildred Futch, Marie Futch, Margaret Sikes and Ernestine Morris and two grandsons, William Kearse and Shep Hodges.
Survivors include her four children, James “Tim” Hodges and his wife Julie of Pembroke, Sally Kearse and her husband Billy of Pembroke, Jesse Alton Hodges and his wife Cindy of Ellabell and Sarah Louise Hodges and her husband Ricky Kendrick of Pembroke; six grandchildren, Angela Warnell and her husband Mike, Jeff Kearse and his wife Cindy, Waylon Hodges, Ashley McKinney, Lauren Tatum and her husband Austin and Jacob Kendrick; 12 great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 12, 2024, from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at Flanders Powell Funeral Home.
Funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Dan Bryant officiating.
Burial will be held at Northside Cemetery.
