Barbara Horan Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Coker-Mathews Funeral Home on Dec. 12, 2025.
Barbara Ann Horan, 63 of Greenville, Texas, gained her heavenly wings on December 10, 2025 in Austin, Texas.

Visitation will be held 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., Thursday, December 18, 2025 at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, December 19, 2025 at Wesley United Methodist church with Pastors Dr. Brian Bosworth and Retired Pastor in Residence Dorothy Straks officiating. A private graveside service will be held at Memoryland Memorial Park at a later date. Food and fellowship will follow the funeral service in the gathering hall at Wesley outside the Sanctuary.

Barbara Horan was born in Greenville, Texas to William A (Bill)Horan, Jr. And Mary Alberta Crabb Horan on November 21, 1962. She grew up in Greenville, Texas, went to Bowie Elementary School, Greenville Junior High and Greenville Senior High School, where she participated in the Band and Flag Corps. She graduated in a tie for Valedictorian of her class in 1981. She went on to Southwestern University in Georgetown where she studied Math and Computer Science. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree. She then went to University of Texas School of Law where she received her Docter of Jurisprudence.

Barbara then moved to Austin and embarked on her career as an attorney, but her hometown of Greenville was never far from her heart and mind.

In 2010 Barbara decided to buy the Texan and renovate it into a place where the people of Greenville could enjoy many different forms of entertainment, some tried and true and some up
band-comers, to satisfy a wide variety tastes. Her vision became reality in October 2014 with the opening of a live stage production of "The Odd Couple".

Regardless of the event, she frequently introduced the proceedings with the words: "I'm Barbara and welcome to my house". In that spirit, Barbara has been known for her compassion for those in need as she often opened "Her house" and provided meals and shelter to those experiencing extreme hardship. As the owner of the Texan Theater, a bringer of entertainment, a humanitarian, a promoter of the arts, and a compassionate employer, Barbara was a dear friend to many, often inspiring them with her boundless positive energy and can-do spirit. She will be deeply missed.

Barbara is preceded in death by her parents and her brothers William A (Bill) Horan, III and James Presley Horan.

Barbara is survived by her sister, Mary Sue Horan.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Women in Need, My Sister's Closet, Bras for the Cause, or Wesley UMC music ministry.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the congregation and staff of Wesley United Methodist Church and to the staff of Coker- Mathews Funeral Home.

Barbara was the sister I didn't have growing up. Her personality and accent will always represent the greatness of what a beautiful caring Texas woman looks like! Besides BMA camp where we met and started writing each other I remember breaking up with my high school girlfriend just to spend one day with Barbara at Six Flags on my senior trip My heart breaks for her sister and her Greenville family! I hope her house continues to embody her heart and vision.
