It is with great sorrow that the family of Barbara Howell (née Bliss) announces the passing of our beloved mother and Nana on April 6, 2024, at the age of 86. Barbara was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana, on Dec. 17, 1937, as the youngest of six children. She spent her childhood and school years in Fort Wayne until leaving home to attend Ball State University. Upon marrying Raymond R. Howell of Peru, Indiana, the couple moved frequently to support his career.
The couple moved to Homosassa, in 1988, and Barbara became a Child Protective Investigator and worked for the State Attorney's Office as a Victim Witness Advocate. She was proud of the work that she did and the impact she had on the many families in need.
Barbara loved her family and friends and enjoyed many social activities. She had many hobbies including gardening, shopping, entertaining, playing cards with her friends and bird watching. Barbara moved to Royal Dalton House in 2021, which she adored as her final home.
Barbara is survived by three daughters; Elizabeth H. Williams, Leslie H. Reistrup and Jennifer L. Howell and two grandsons, all of whom she was incredibly proud. She is predeceased by her son John R. Howell and husband Raymond.
The family is honoring Barbara privately according to her wishes. As an expression of sympathy, donations may be sent to Hospice Foundation of America in Barbara's name.
