Barbara Baldwin Obituary

Barbara Jo (Lee) Baldwin

August 22, 1952 ~ August 6, 2025

Barbara Jo (Lee) Baldwin, 72, our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away at home in Ashburn, Virginia, on August 6, 2025.

Born on August 22, 1952, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Clarice Bracken and Joseph Clegg Lee, Barbara grew up with two older brothers, a younger sister, and a beloved fox terrier named Spotty. Her childhood was filled with summer road trips to California beaches, visits to National Parks, and frequent trips to Tooele to see grandparents and cousins. She attended Rosslyn Heights Elementary, Hillside Junior High, and Highland High School, where she made lifelong friends, joined the Dance Club, and was a proud member of the mildly notorious "Rock Out Women's Club."

After high school, Barbara attended the University of Utah, where she joined the Alpha Chi Omega sorority, and later graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in nursing. As an OB nurse at the University of Utah and later at Magee-Women's Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA, she cared for countless mothers and newborns. Her nurturing spirit shone brightest in her greatest calling: being a mother and grandmother. Her five children, twenty grandchildren, and extended family were her greatest joy. She made it to the birth of nearly all her grandchildren, confidently took the night shift with the babies, and was the undisputed queen of making bath time fun. She proudly attended their blessings, baptisms, games, graduations, weddings, piano recitals, and dance performances.

Barbara began raising her family in Salt Lake City before living in Pittsburgh, PA, and White Sulphur Springs, WV. The family eventually settled in Lexington, VA-an idyllic place to raise children, surrounded by friends and the love of their adopted grandmother, Barbara Clark.

She had a gift for design and her homes were as beautiful as they were welcoming. She lived for a good trip and traveled the world with her family, always returning with a story to tell. Barbara was an avid reader, political enthusiast, and shoe collector.

A faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Barbara served in many callings. Her testimony of the Savior sustained her throughout her life, and she instilled a love of the Gospel in each of her five children. She had a gift for "seeing the one"-always ready to listen, share wisdom, and extend love.

Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Clarice Lee, and her sister-in-law, Marilyn Durham Lee. She is survived by her children: Andy Crockett (Mindy) of Fayetteville, GA; Nick Crockett (Shannon) of Silver Spring, MD; Maere Weed (Eric) of Weddington, NC; Caleb Baldwin (Heidi) of Falls Church, VA; and Martha Ford (Jesse) of Havertown, PA. She is also survived by her siblings Richard Lee (Rose), David Lee (Kathleen), and Lizzie Niederhauser (Steve), along with many nieces and nephews.

Barbara will be interred at Wasatch Lawn in Salt Lake City alongside her parents. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on October 4, 2025 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Lexington, Virginia.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you snuggle your little ones then enjoy a Diet Coke-just as she would have wished.

I'm so sorry to hear of Barbara's passing. I will never forget her-she was so much a part of my life in our growing up years. She was funny and she was caring. We learned a lot about life together, through the good times and the hard times. She was the best of friends, and my heart goes out to her family at this difficult time. I love you, Barbara! -Janice Rae
