Barbara Johnson Obituary

Barbara Franklin Johnson, 82, passed away on September 6, 2025, in Hendersonville, TN. Born on September 26, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Kinkle Franklin and Ruby Staton Franklin. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert A. Johnson.

On August 8, 1970, she married Robert Arthur Johnson of Milwaukee and welcomed his sons Tim, Craig, and Todd into her life and heart. In 1975, their son Robert Patrick was born.

Barbara dedicated her life to her family, community, and service. Professionally, Barbara worked with numerous non-profit organizations and retired in 2002 after serving ten years as Program Director and later Executive Director of the Mental Health Association of Central Virginia. Her commitment to community extended well beyond her career-she was an enthusiastic board member and volunteer for organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, The Lynchburg Fine Arts Center, Theatre Four, Couples and Kids Counseling Center, and The Women's Club of Lynchburg.

Barbara was a devoted member of Peakland United Methodist Church for over four decades serving on many church boards and was active in the Ruth Circle and Youth Groups. She also gave generously of her time to support her sons' school, athletic, and cultural activities.

Her greatest joy was her family. Barbara is survived by her sons: Robert Patrick Johnson (Heather) of Hendersonville, TN; Timothy Scott Johnson (Susan) of Roanoke, VA; Craig Steven Johnson of Reno, NV; and Todd Robert Johnson of Myrtle Beach, SC. She leaves behind grandchildren Michael, Duncan, Cooper, Caitlyn, Madison, Emory, Sam, Christopher, Steven, Sarah, Samantha, Robert, Maggie; and great-grandchildren Trey, Adalyn Grace, Adam, Mia, and Colton.

A celebration of Barbara's life will be held at Peakland United Methodist Church on September 25, 2025, at 11 a.m., with Reverend Joe Cailles officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. To honor Barbara's vibrant spirit, the family kindly requests that guests wear bright colors. A private graveside service will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Lynchburg Humane Society, Peakland United Methodist Church (Youth or Missions designation), or Lynchburg Habitat for Humanity.

May her memory bring comfort to those who knew her.
