Barbara Jean "Harrington" Johnson

Barbara Jean Harrington Johnson, 81, of Sanford, NC, passed away on March 30, 2026, in the town she called home her entire life.

Born on June 5, 1944, Barbara was truly a Sanford original-someone who knew the value of hard work, community, and showing up for others. She spent many years working at Pfizer Pharmaceuticals and, in true Barbara fashion, never slowed down, continuing to work right up until the end.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kirby Lee Johnson Jr; her brother, Charles Harrington; and her sister, Geraldine Cameron.

Barbara leaves behind a family who adored her: her daughter, Angela Johnson Brown (Mark Brown); her son, Rodney Lee Johnson (Jennifer Johnson); her grandchildren, Lauren Davis (Chris Davis), Noah Johnson (Lauren Johnson), Evan Johnson, Miranda Marks and Ava Marks; and her great-grandchildren, Kai Johnson, Cameron Johnson, and soon-to-be Everleigh Johnson. She is also survived by her sisters, Phyllis Watson, Donna Lynn Buchanan, and Carolyn Rogers and numerous nieces and nephews.

To know Barbara was to love her. She had an infectious spirit, a sharp sense of humor, and a wit that could light up any room. She never met a stranger-only friends she hadn't yet made. Her generosity knew no bounds; she would give the shirt off her back without a second thought and expect nothing in return.

But more than anything, Barbara's heart belonged to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They were her pride, her joy, and the center of her world. Her legacy lives on in the laughter she shared, the kindness she showed, and the love she poured into her family.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 2, 2026 from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home with the funeral service immediately following in the chapel at 2:00 PM with Rev. Bruce MacInnes officiating.
