Barbara Marshall Jones was born on June 28, 1935, in St. Louis, Missouri, to Dr. John and Virginia Marshall. She grew up in Union, Missouri, and later moved to Kansas City after college. Barbara lived in Overland Park for more than 50 years and passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, on February 5, 2026.

Barbara devoted her career to education, beginning as a physical education teacher and later serving as a middle school counselor—a role she truly cherished. One of the great joys of her professional life was leading students on educational trips to Europe for more than 20 years, experiences that left a lasting impact on countless young lives. She earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Missouri and her master’s degree from the University of Kansas.

Known for her loving and compassionate spirit, Barbara was always ready to help others. She was immensely proud of her children and absolutely adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In her free time, she found joy at the Lake of the Ozarks, traveling throughout Europe, and continuing a beloved tradition of taking her grandchildren to a special birthday dinner. Barbara treasured many meaningful relationships, including her close connection with the Mennonite community of Tunas, Missouri, and her French “son,” Laurent Juppé.

Faith was central to Barbara’s life. She was deeply involved in Christ Church, where she served in leadership for many years. Her love of service extended beyond her community and even took her as far as Uganda through volunteer work. Barbara counseled hundreds of students and adults, offering wisdom, compassion, and steady encouragement. Through her unwavering faith and genuine kindness, she touched the lives of countless people.

Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Judge Robert Gene Jones; her infant daughter, Brooke Margaret Jones; and her grandson, Luke Robert Jones. She is survived by her children Brock (Fina), Brent (Shana), and Brooke (Jeff); her sister Jacquelyn Rother; her grandchildren Angelia (Anjelo), Kennedy (Brandon), Jeran (Kelly), Hayden (Savannah), Dane (Izzy), Reagan, and Bo; her step-grandchildren children Griffin, Carter, Anderson, Charlie, and Skylar; and her great grandchildren Jase, Lily and Henry; Six nieces and nephews; and her beloved dog, Bojo.
