Barbara Kiley Obituary
Published by Legacy on Jan. 14, 2026.
Our beautiful sister, Barbara Weber Kiley, passed away last Sunday. Our hearts are
filled with sorrow. She was 78 years old.
The first of the three "Weber Girls" she was born on June 26, 1947, in North Haledon,
New Jersey to her delighted parents Frank and Marie Miller Weber. In the years
following the war, opportunity was Out West so after my birth in 1951, the small family
moved across country to southern California joining members of mom's Miller family
and enabling dad to start a new business and continue enjoying the sport of surfing he
took up on Waikiki Beach during WWII. Soon after, our baby sister, Kim Kim A Weber
Wells was born and our family was complete.
Barbara blossomed in spectacular fashion when her extraordinary talent as a singer,
dancer and actress erupted at age 16. We knew she could dance but who knew she
could sing so well? Her career began with the part of Lisle in The Sound of Music
produced by the Long Beach Civic Light Opera. That performance was followed by
Gypsy and a few other amateur productions. Then in the spring of 1965, she auditioned
for The Sacramento Music Circus for a professional gig of nine musical comedy
productions over ten weeks over the summer. So she skipped the last week of high
school and on the night, she was supposed to attend the graduation ceremony, she
opened in her first professional show at the age of 17. She could sing, dance, act and
could fit the costumes. For several years she worked steadily mostly in California at
Melodyland and other theaters "in the round." When she was 21 performing in The
Boyfriend, the leading star, Jane Powell, collapsed on stage with the flu one night. The
producers were going to cancel the last three performances until Barbara stepped
forward and said, "I can do it" and indeed she did. With only one midnight rehearsal she
took over the next day in the leading role. She saved the show!
When musical comedy gave way to rock and roll in the early 70's and show business
changed, Barbara retired from the professional stage and eventually moved back to
Orange County working for the family business and playing the leading lady in a few
amateur productions. In 1976, during a brief marriage, she gave birth to a daughter,
Tiryn Marie (Schofield), and the real fun began. We all adored Tiryn. She was so funny
and adorable. Unfortunately, the marriage to Tiryn's father wasn't. Divorce was quick.
Life continued and then one day, Robert Kiley came into her life!
Barbara and Bob met at the Century Plaza Hotel in 1984. I had recruited Bob to help the
White House advance team during the re-election campaign of President Ronald
Reagan. Nancy Reagan was appearing at an event at the hotel and volunteers were
needed in the staff office so my sisters filled in. As I was bustling around and
unbeknownst to me, Barbara and Bob were falling in love around the Xerox machine!
Six months later they married and then bought a home in Yorba Linda. Bob came with a
bonus, little Kristen Kiley (Lendzion). Tiryn had a sister and we had a sweet five-year-
old niece.
Politics was Bob's business so naturally he ran her successful campaign for Yorba
Linda City Council in 1992. Barbara served her city for several terms and became the
first female mayor of the city in 1994. She wanted Yorba Linda to have its own high
school and worked tirelessly to see that through. Today, Yorba Linda High School is a
reality, and many owe thanks to Barbara for that accomplishment.
Barb and Bob spent many happy years in Yorba Linda and many happy times with her
sisters and their husbands. In the 2000's, we started cruising regularly on brother-in-law
Steve's Bolero in Newport Harbor on the nights when the moon was full. At Christmas,
Bob presented the six of us with embroidered hats and sweatshirts with a logo he
devised; we were officially the Full Moon Club.
Life was good and time passed. Tiryn and her husband Eric moved to Lake Havasu City
in 2021 for a lifestyle change and to buy a home. In 2018 Bob suffered a brain aneurism
and stroke. He recovered but was affected and needed closer care by Barbara. Soon,
they followed Tiryn and Eric to Arizona to enjoy a new life in the desert. They traveled to
see friends and family around the country and friends and family visited them.
In late October of 2025, Barbara fell at home resulting in the break of her L1 vertebrae.
Consequences ensued, her health deteriorated and she couldn't recover. The Lord took
her home on Sunday morning, January 11, 2026. That evening, daughter Tiryn watched
the sunset and felt her mother's presence. "She gave us a beautiful sunset with all her
favorite colors." I believe I will always see my amazing sister in every sunset. Rest in
peace our beautiful, incomparable sister.
