Barbara J. Klein

Died February 3, 2026

SUTTONS BAY – Barbara Joan Klein, 89, of Suttons Bay, passed away Tuesday, February 3, 2026 at Hawthorn Cottage in Traverse City with her loving family at her side.

Barbara was born June 30, 1936 in Troy, Ohio, the daughter of Robert and Margaret "Betty" (nee Baskerville) Havemann. On August 2, 1958 at the Presbyterian Church of Troy she married William F. Klein who preceded her in death on January 25, 2021

Barbara earned her bachelor's degree from Ohio University and spent her career as a medical technologist in addition to her working with her husband Bill in the family flower shop. She was a tireless supporter of the community and volunteered at her church, the Suttons Bay Congregational Church. Barbara also volunteered as a Cherry Festival Ambassador and with Inland Seas Education Association. She was a member of Zonta, PEO and the Red Hat Ladies.

Bill and Barb traveled extensively to such places as England, France, Thailand, Vietnam, Italy and included several cruises along the way. In her youth she was an athletic lady and enjoyed snow and water-skiing, cross-country skiing and swimming.

Barb and Bill loved to go sailing, power boating and they were both members of and instructors at the former U. S. Power Squadron now known as America's Boating Club of Grand Traverse Bay. Barb enjoyed quilting, shopping and decorating with the color purple. The Klein home always had a family dog.

Barb is survived by her two sons, Bill (Peggy) Klein, Greg (Carol) Klein; her grandchildren, Robert (Chris Aguinaga) Klein, Matthew (Bethany) Klein, Evan Klein, Paige (Florian) Nora; her great grandchildren, Niamh Klein, Nyla Klein, Annabelle Nora and her cousins, Marna Leasure and Linda Seiller.

A celebration of Barbara's life will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 14th with the family greeting friends at 12 noon at the Suttons Bay Congregational Church, 218 Madison St., Suttons Bay.

The family would like to thank the staff at Hawthorn Cottage and the caregivers of Hospice of Michigan for the wonderful care given in her last years and months
