Clayton "Duke J. Raphael

Died February 7, 2026

TRAVERSE CITY – Clayton "Duke" Joseph Raphael, 74, of Traverse City passed away on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at home, surrounded by his loving family.

Duke was born on November 11, 1951, in Hart, the son of Carl and Julia (Mashka) Raphael. He grew up in Harbor Springs and was a survivor of the boarding schools, an experience that shaped his resilience and strength throughout his life.

Duke was an avid outdoorsman. If he wasn't at home, he was in the woods. He loved rock hunting, fishing, hunting, and camping, and especially enjoyed mushroom hunting-he had a true nose for morels. He was also known for his ability to find eagle feathers. In his younger years, Duke loved ice skating and was a speed skater.

When he wasn't outdoors, Duke could usually be found in his shop, polishing Petoskey stones or creating driftwood art. He had a deep appreciation for nature and craftsmanship, and his hands were rarely still. Above all, Duke was a true family man who loved his grandchildren dearly and cherished time spent with family.

Duke is survived by his children, Jennifer Raphael, Casey Raphael, Amanda Detzler, and Adam Raphael (Kate); siblings, Rosemary Hawley-Raphael and Paul J. (Tanya Sue) Raphael; as well as many loving cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his siblings, Carl, Wanda, Deborah, Peggy Rocha, Duane, and Robbin.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 10th with visitation starting at 1:00 p.m. at the Strongheart Center in Peshawbestown. Burial at St. Kateri Tekakwitha Cemetery will take place in the spring.

Please share condolences and memories with the family at www.martinson.info.
