Barbara A. Kohne, 93, of Decatur, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, May 15, 2025, at Adams Woodcrest in Decatur. Born on March 6, 1932, in Decatur to the late G. Jerome and Dorothy J. (Rabbitt) DeBolt, Barbara lived a vibrant life marked by her unwavering love for her family and her community.

On June 14, 1951, Barbara was united in marriage to Paul E. Kohne, a partnership filled with love that lasted until his passing on June 11, 2000. Together, they built a family and created countless cherished memories.

Barbara was a proud member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Decatur. She graduated from Decatur Catholic High School in 1950 and later retired from Scott’s Foods in Decatur in 1995, where she left a lasting impression on her colleagues.

Barbara’s last 13 years were spent at the Woodcrest Community, where her fun-loving, ornery, and energetic spirit shone brightly. She was a beloved member of the Looney Tunes band at Woodcrest, showcasing her playful side while playing the kazoo. Throughout her time there, she developed close relationships with many residents, treating them as her extended family.

Barbara is survived by her daughters, Patricia Haines of Decatur, Indiana; Karen (Paul) Brite of Decatur, Indiana; Cynthia (Rod) Rector of Noblesville, Indiana; and Theresa (Thomas) Nowak of Lewis Center, Ohio. She is also survived by her brother, Rick (Donna) DeBolt of Auburn, Indiana; nine grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sandra Kohne; her grandson, Thomas L. Nowak; and her two brothers, Thomas and James DeBolt.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Adams – Woodcrest at a later date, allowing family and friends to honor Barbara’s remarkable life and the legacy of love and joy she leaves behind.

Preferred memorials can be given to to ACCF-Cancer Fund or Riley Hospital for Children.
