Barbara Lavender Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Williams Funeral Directors - Garland on Nov. 25, 2023.
Barbara Lavender, 89, passed away, November 24, 2023, at her home in Garland Texas. She was born to parents Jack and Johnie Marks, 1934 in rural Fannin County. Barbara graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School and received an Associate degree from Richland College She married Jack Lavender in 1953 and traveled the world in service of the United States Army before relocating to Garland to be near family. Barbara is survived by two children: Jack Kenneth, of Fort Worth; and John, of Garland. Barbara was predeceased by her loving husband in 2015.
Barbara was born in humble conditions during Great Depression into a large extended family. As the eldest of many male cousins, she embraced her tomboy nature and took care of them. Her strong will and indominable spirit stood her well in life's struggles. She raised two boys, and a husband, across the world imbuing a strong sense of independence and wonder at what the world had to give. When the boys headed off to build their lives and her husband retired from the Army, she went back to school to get her degree and work outside of the home. Ever the supportive wife and daughter she provided the stability in the home and hearth. Her generous nature was given to her extended family, who she loved dearly. She wanted them to experience the bounty and joy this world can give. She was blessed with much love and graced the world with her actions.
Viewing ceremony will be held on Friday, December 1, 2023, at 12 p.m. at the Williams Funeral Home. The burial will take place at 1 p.m. at the Garland Memorial Park cemetery.
