Barbara Lock Obituary

Lock, Barbara Joan
11/2/1935 - 11/14/2023
Jackson
Born on November 2nd, 1935, Barbara died Tuesday evening, November 14, 2023 at the age of 88. She was the beloved wife of Robert Douglas Lock for over 65 years, the mother of Terri Lock Rosser (Steve), Christopher Hugh Lock, and Eric Douglas Lock, and her grandchildren Nicholas, Jack, Olivia, Avery and Ewan. She loved the world's people, traveling into far-off lands on more than 50 trips overseas, conversing to find the world to be good and kind. She loved her family. She loved her friends. She was a professor of Art History to thousands of college students throughout Michigan. She surrounded herself with flowers and delighted in their thriving growth.
A memorial service will be held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 309 S. Jackson St., Jackson, MI on Monday, November 20th, at 11:00 am. A luncheon will follow at church. In place of flowers, donations would be appreciated to Doctors Without Borders, UNICEF's Refugee fund, or if you wish to keep your gift local, the renewal of St. Paul's Flower Garden where some of her rose bushes will be merged with new roses, part of an enhanced garden to share her joy.
It is Barbara's express wish that her obituary stay simple: "She was blessed with a loving family and the truest of friends, blessed to teach, to travel, to appreciate art, and to dwell in her garden."
To all whom she cherished her parting wish is simply, "Vaya con Dios" -- "Go with God."

Bob Terri Chris Eric- we are so sad to hear of Mrs. Lock´s passing. She was such a kind and loving person. You all are such amazing next door neighbors. We treasure all the good times we shared with your whole family. Mr. and Mrs. Lock were so good to all of us. It is an amazing privilege that we got to grow up with The Locks. So many precious times and great memories - L & J ice cream, camping in your backyard, your vw slug bug, going to JCC games, The Comet Club, The Secret 7, Barb´s beautiful roses, sledding off the garage roofs blizzard of ´78, watching tv at your house with Barb´s beloved Shadow the cat, your 1976 vacation Montreal Olympics and seeing Mark The Bird Fidrych, riding our bikes - Terri´s green Schwinn "Fair Lady" and staying in "The Limits" that Barb so lovingly set, Barb´s craft drawer, all of your beloved Walloon Lake stories, and all of Barb´s fascinating vacation pictures from around the world. I loved when Barb would teach us her old cheers- remember "Go Back, Go Back, Go back to the woods". I love Barb´s stories of the Mackinaw bridge, that she walked it with her Father when it first opened in 1957, and she walked it with all of you on its 50th anniversary in 2007. Barb and Bob, Theresa Terri Marie, Christopher Hugh and Eric Douglas - I loved growing up next door to your family. You are all so precious to me. Barb was so loving and kind.
Lots of love, Margaret Agnes McDermott

Was saddened to learn of Barbara's passing. A beautiful and classy lady who always possessed a smile. She and her husband Bob were the sweetest couple and very devoted to one another. Her presence will be missed. Rest in your Heavenly Garden Mrs. Lock.
