Barbara B. Lodge, age 94, passed away quietly in her sleep December 7th, 2024 at Juniper Village in Meadville. She received excellent care from both Juniper Village and Lakeland Area Hospice.
Barbara was born March 23rd, 1930, in Harveys Lake, Pennsylvania. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur D. Lodge, her sister, Angela Boyd and her daughter, Bonita Carlson.
She is survived by her children: son, Douglas and partner, Charmaine and daughter, Cate. She is further survived by eight grandchildren: Lori, Sara, Gamaliel, Mondara, Jera, Kristiane, Rob, and Scott; and thirteen great-grandchildren: Ben, Winter, Braunwyn, Finian, Lucia, Griffen, Zephyra, Caitlin, Erik, Ayden, Kaelyn, Kylie, and Roni.
Barb retired from Allegheny College in the mid 90s after many years as the secretary of Carnegie Hall. She was very proud to be a part of the Allegheny community. Barb was a life-long fiber artist and educator; a spinner, weaver, knitter, seamstress, and pattern-maker, often creating a garment starting with the fleece to the final piece. She was an avid supporter of the arts, a voracious reader, an excellent cook & bread baker and a fabulous & much loved grandma affectionately known as The Nannerator. She shared her love for arts, crafts, & literature with everyone she knew, particularly her grandchildren. Barb was a founding member and driving force of the NWPA Spinners and Weavers Guild, and longtime member of the Chautauqua Weavers Guild & Butler Spinners and Weavers Guild, participating in many Sheep to Shawl competitions.
A celebration of her life will be held in the spring.
Memorials in her name may be directed to the Meadville Public Library, the Crawford County Historical Society, or to Allegheny College's James T. Linaberger Scholarship Fund, which supports scholarships for first generation students.
