Barbara Malpas, 83, of Surgoinsville, passed away Nov. 13 at NHC Healthcare, Greenville, South Carolina, after a period of declining health.
Barbara was born in Cadwell, Georgia, and graduated Cadwell High School as Salutatorian of her class.
She started her career at Robins Air Force Base in Warner Robins, Georgia. Barbara "B.J." loved cooking and had a passion for helping and serving others.
Barbara was a loving wife, mother and was always dedicated to her church.
She was married to the love of her life, George, for more than 60 years.
She was a member of Rogersville Presbyterian Church where she was active in the Presbyterian Women's organization.
Barbara was preceded in death by her husband: George Malpas; a daughter: Robin Malpas; her parents: Jim and Myrtle Boone Smith; and a sister: Jean Smith.
She is survived by her daughter: Kim Bright and her husband, Jimmy, of Mauldin, South Carolina; her son: Jim Malpas and his wife, Karen; grandchildren: Thomas Malpas, Katherine Malpas and Sarah Malpas, all of Thompson's Station, Tyler Sanders of White Bear Lake, Minnesota, and Erin Allen and her husband, Josh; a great-granddaughter: Carsyn Allen, all of Williamston, South Carolina; and a sister: Libby Price of Warner Robins, Georgia.
Visitation will be 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Nov. 18 in the Broome Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. in Broome Chapel with Pastor Brad Terry Davis officiating.
Burial will follow in McKinney Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association, Meals on Wheels of Northeast Tennessee; or Rogersville Presbyterian Church, Presbyterian Women, 309 W. Kyle St., Rogersville, TN, 37857.
