Barbara Jean Mein, age 87, of West Des Moines, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, June 20, 2025.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 1, 2025 with a Rosary beginning at 9:30 a.m., at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in West Des Moines. A Graveside Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Adel also on Tuesday, July 1, 2025. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.caldwellparrish.com.
Barbara was born on July 24, 1937, to Eugene and Mildred (Clark) Cline. She graduated from North High School in Des Moines and went on to earn her nursing degree from Des Moines Area Community College in Ankeny.
She married Paul Mein and together they built a life filled with love, family, and faith. In earlier years, Barbara was a member of the Beaverdale VFW Auxiliary 9127, the Master Gardeners of America, and PBS. She had a passion for quilting, gardening, shopping, and crafting, and she was a gifted painter.
A woman of deep faith, Barbara was a devoted member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Above all, she cherished her family. Her children meant the world to her, and her love for them was evident in all she did.
Barbara is survived by her loving children: Cindy Murphy of West Des Moines, Mark (Becky) Lage of Des Moines, Kraig Lage of Des Moines, Kelli (Jim) Barrett of West Des Moines, and Bruce Anderson of Grimes; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; her sister, Shirley Fjelstad of Livingston, Montana; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Mildred (Clark) Cline; her stepmother, Florence Cline; her husband, Paul Mein; and her daughter, Penni Wilson.
