Barbara Alena Janssens Mento, age 75, passed away peacefully on September 17, 2025, at the Country Rest Home after a long and courageous battle with dementia. Barbara was born in Port Arthur, Texas, to Mildred Hebert Janssens and Pellerin Lewis Janssens. She was the beloved sister of Maureen Rode, Katherine Reed, Dixie LeGros, and Karl Janssens, all of whom reside in Texas and whom she dearly loved. She shared 51 wonderful years of marriage with her devoted husband, Tony Mento. Together, they were blessed with two sons, Steve and Justin, two cherished daughters-in-law, Heather Mento and Claudi Grossmann, and four grandchildren-Vito, Vienna, Oscar, and Elena-who were the lights of her life. Barbara enjoyed a successful career as a university professor of Mathematics and Computer Science, where she inspired countless students with her passion, intellect, and dedication. Beyond her academic work, she was a talented seamstress and quiltmaker, admired for her creativity and artistry. A devout Catholic, Barbara embraced Jesus as a lifelong friend and source of strength. Her unwavering faith, gentle warmth, and generous spirit touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, colleagues, and all whose lives she enriched with her kindness, wisdom, and love. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, October 3, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Jude’s the Apostle Catholic Church, 152 Tulip Drive, Lewes, DE. Visitation for family and friends will begin at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Barbara's memory to https://VetDogs.org or the Alzheimer's Association.
