Barbara Gay Mixon passed away peacefully Monday, May 19, 2025 at the age of 77. She was born to Martin Mixon and Ruby Yeater Mixon in Beeville, TX on October 7, 1947. Gay grew up and lived in Pawnee, Texas, where she graduated from high school. Upon graduation she attended Texas State University and received a Bachelor's of Education degree in elementary education. She taught kindergarten at Kenedy ISD where she made many lifelong friends. She also loved all of her students. Gay lived a full life and had many adventures. She became a travel agent and traveled many wonderful places, but her favorite was Monterey Bay, California. She also loved spoiling her nephews with shopping trips to San Antonio and eating out at wonderful places. Her love for dogs was a big part of her life. Upon retiring, she moved to Rockport and loved playing with them in the ocean breeze. She was a member of Kenedy Methodist Church. Gay is preceded in death by her beloved son, Troy and her parents, Martin and Ruby Yeater Mixon. She is survived by her brother, Larry Mixon and wife Christene of Kenedy, TX, nephews, Kirk Mixon and wife Malia of Atlanta, Georgia, Mark Mixon and wife Stephanie of Houston, TX, great-nephews and nieces, Zac, Nate and Hannah of Atlanta, Georgia, Grant, Hayden, Lucy, and Drew of Houston, TX and numerous cousins. The Mixon Family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the Rockport Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center for their compassionate care during Gay's final days.
Visitation will be held Saturday, May 24, 2025 from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. with Services at 11:00 A.M. in the Eckols Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Lee Ann Barker officiating.
Serving as Pallbearers are Kirk Mixon, Mark Mixon, Lee Hext, Brad Yeater, Brian Turnipseed and Kenneth Anderson.
Memorials may be made to the Pawnee Methodist Church Building Fund.
