Barbara Jean Mulheron, age 81 of Mondovi, WI passed away on January 16, 2024 at her home. The following is Barbara’s story of her life…
It is a rare opportunity to be able to assist in writing your own obituary, so I asked my husband Denny to help me by typing it out.
I have been so blessed to have a loving and caring husband for the last 47 plus years and God has richly blessed us in so many ways. Before I go home to be with the Lord, God has allowed me this opportunity to share my faith story, as well as my love for my immediate and extended family that He has so richly blessed me with.
I was born August 16, 1942 in Milwaukee WI. the only child of John & Louise Manos. I have 3 beautiful and loving children who bless me daily: Renee, Michele and John. In addition, I have two extended children: Angela who is a wonderful loving daughter and her brother Shaun who is already with the Lord. God has also blessed me with an amazing son-in-law Craig who is married to my daughter Michele and a beautiful and caring daughter-in-law Susie who is married to my son John. I cannot put into words what they mean to me.
I have been showered with 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren and recently I found out I have three more little great-grand babies on the way that I will hold and watch over from heaven. I was an only child and when I married Dennis I inherited his enormous family of 15 who accepted and loved me as one of their own.
Soon I will be in the loving arms of Jesus, but before I go home, I want to share why I have such joy and peace in these my final days. Years ago the simple gospel message of salvation was shared with me as outlined in Matthew 7:13-14 where Jesus says that there are two roads and only the narrow road will lead to eternal life. Jesus also said “Except a man is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of heaven” (John 3:3)
Deeply convicted of my sin, the gospel message was clear and this message had nothing to do with religion but everything to do with why Jesus died on the cross. The simple message of the gospel was that He died for my sins and in that moment I realized that I, like each of us, is a sinner and in need of a Savior. I came before God, recognized my sinful state and asked to be forgiven and for Jesus to be the center of my life. Since finding Jesus my life was far from perfect, but in that moment of salvation God gave me an inner peace, joy and assurance that I am now a child of God and securely in His arms.
Ephesians 1:3 clearly teaches that my inheritance, the promise of heaven was sealed in that moment and my salvation was put on deposit for me. Jesus said there is one road, one gate one way and it only happens if we come to grips with our sin and embrace the atoning death of Jesus. He alone is the gate to eternal life. Ephesians 2:8-9 tells us that our salvation is not by our good works or anything we do. Rather it is a gift given by God through what Jesus did for us on the cross.
Finally, I want to share the amazing blessings and love of my Friendship Church Family in Mondovi. Words cannot express the love and spiritual blessing they have been to me over the years. It gives me great peace knowing they will continue to surround my husband with love and grace.
My grandchildren asked that I write something that they can share with their children, my great grandchildren. There is nothing I can share that is more important than the message of the Gospel that I am sharing.
My prayer is that as they grow they will read these truths again and again and turn their lives to Jesus. Then instead of saying good-bye, we’ll simply say “I’ll see you later GG”
In His loving arms- Barbara Mulheron.
