Barbara Murphy Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Maryland Cremation Services on Mar. 27, 2026.
Barbara Jean Murphy, of Annapolis Maryland, died peacefully surrounded by friends on March 7, 2026, after a long illness. She was 74 years old and courageously battled renal failure for seven years.

Barbara (known as Bobbie to many of her friends) graduated from Maryland School for the Deaf and Blind, Frederick Maryland, in 1971. She began working for Safeway in 1973 and continued there until 2004 when the ice cream plant closed.

Bobbie started a new career at Oceaneering International where she worked for almost 15 years before retiring. Barbara was well-respected and made many friends at Oceaneering who she always greeted with a "Hi, honey!" and a warm smile.

Fiercely independent and strong, Bobbie took care of herself from an early age. As a lover of cats, she "mothered" and loved six kittens over 40 years. She spoke of them as her "babies" and spent most of her free time playing with and caring for her cats.

Bobbie spent her last few years at Royal Assisted Living in Odenton, Maryland. She was grateful for the compassion and care she received from the staff of Royal. Bobbie's friends would like to acknowledge the high quality of care and kindness she received from everyone at Royal.

Barbara was preceded in death by her mother, Iva Murphy and her father, William Murphy.

Bobbie was a loyal, true friend and will be greatly missed by those who loved her. A Celebration of Life will be scheduled later in May. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Barbara's name to the Annapolis SPCA Cat Division.
