Robert H. "Sandy" Schiffman Jr.

Robert H. "Sandy" Schiffman Jr., 80, passed away on March 19, 2026 in Chapala, Jalisco, Mexico after a brief illness.

Born in Providence, RI, the son of Robert and Ann (Coyle) Schiffman, Sandy had lived in Lansing, MI, Annapolis, MD, and most recently between East Greenwich, RI, and Chapala. He had a deep love for Michigan State basketball, an appreciation for driving the long way wherever possible, an enthusiasm for salsa dancing, and a seemingly endless list of hobbies at different points of his life.

More than anything, Sandy loved connecting with people. He had a rare ability to strike up a conversation with anyone about anything. He delighted in sharing his stories and was just as eager to hear yours.

He was quietly proud of more than 40 years of sobriety, one day at a time.

He is survived by his daughters, Kara (William) Fricke and Alyssa Schiffman; his sisters, Barbara Danis and Mary Lebeau; his adored grandchildren, Annika, Benjamin, and Dylan Fricke; and his former wife Rachel Fredette Schiffman. He also leaves behind cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends who became family over the years.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 11, from 1-3pm at Gregg's Restaurant in North Kingston. Memorial gifts may be made to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Providence, to support kids growing up in the city that raised him.

He will be missed and remembered every time a wrong turn leads to an adventure, a friendship, or an incredible view.
