Thomas J. Sullivan, age 83, of Coventry passed away peacefully on March 19th 2026 surrounded by family. A native of
Somerville, MA, Tom was the son of the late Katherine (Donahue) and Eugene Sullivan.
Tom was the cherished father to Scott and his wife Stephanie, Kristen, Jeff and his wife Angela. Tom was predeceased by his "pal" son Sean and former spouse Maureen. In addition to his children, Tom leaves behind his five grandchildren; Brandon, Riley, Alexandra, Matthew, and Kiley.
Tom was the loving brother to Eugene Sullivan and his wife Mary, Dennis Sullivan and his wife Diane, and Kathleen Moscatel and her husband Richard. He was the loving Uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Tom loved to learn and spent his early years obtaining his education. He earned his bachelor's degree at Boston College. Growing up Irish Catholic, Tom then decided to attend St John's Seminary where he would study for five years obtaining his Master of Divinity before becoming ordained a Catholic Priest. Tom proudly served a Catholic Parish in
Woburn, MA for 2 years before realizing he had a higher calling in life, fatherhood. Tom left the Catholic Church to start a family of his own and devote his life to his family. A student at heart, Tom went on to obtain a second master's degree from Northeastern University before entering the workforce. He went on to work for the State of Rhode Island for 35 years as Director of Counseling Services for the Department of Corrections.
Tom was as generous a person as you could meet. Never materialistic, Tom was known to always help those in need with no questions asked. The word "no" wasn't part of his vocabulary. But that was Tom, good hearted and always willing to give whatever he had. Whether it was spoiling all the kids during the Cape Cod Summer vacations, hosting extravagant Easter Egg hunts for his family, or surprising his children with their Sunday "mystery rides". It was the joy of others that made Tom happy.
The family would like to thank the staff at HopeHealth Hospice Center for providing compassionate end of life care to Tom and his family.
At his request, Tom's funeral service and burial will be private.
