A. William "Bill" Pett passed away peacefully on March 9 after a lengthy illness.

Born in Cranston, he was the son of the late Alfred and Mary Irene (Brydges) Pett. He was predeceased by his sisters, Mary Irene and Ruth Pett.

Bill graduated from Brown University and received a master's degree from URI. He was Senior Public Information Officer at the RI Dept. of Environmental Management, as well as a longtime adjunct English instructor at area colleges, most notably RIC.

In addition, he was a member and volunteer at Westminster Unitarian Church, and an actor in local plays and films.

A longtime supporter of the Boy Scouts of America, Bill served as the Cubmaster of Pack 3, East Greenwich, and was a dedicated volunteer with Boy Scout Troop 2 as well.

Bill's primary joy in life was his family. He is survived by his wife, Mary Paolino, and his beloved children Wendy Mae Erin (Mark Reilly), Alexander Sovet (Danielle), William Pett (Ashley) and Ian Pett, along with five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to Bill's exceptional caregivers at Atria Harborhill and Riverview Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center.
