John Jacobs Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Mystic Funeral Home on Mar. 19, 2026.
John George Jacobs, of Groton, affectionately known as Jack to his friends and family, passed away peacefully of natural causes on February 17, 2026, in Waterford, CT. Born on September 30, 1940, in Boston, MA, Jack's life was marked by his dedication to his family, his passion for his work, and his commitment to his community.

Jack was born and raised in East Boston by his parents, the late John Arthur and Helen Jacobs. He was an only child, but spent his childhood being a protective "big brother" to his many first cousins: Audrey Fannon, Paul Hildreth, Stephen Pezzella, and Janice Pezzella. After graduating from Boston Latin High School, he attended Northeastern University. Upon earning his BS in Engineering, he embarked on a distinguished 40-year career at General Dynamics. As an Engineering Manager at the Electric Boat division in both Quincy, MA, and Groton, CT, he contributed significantly to many projects and had the honor of mentoring and befriending many great coworkers before retiring in 2005.

Jack is survived by his son, Kevin J. Jacobs and his wife Beth of Marietta, GA, his son Brian M. Jacobs and girlfriend Noel Haigh of Uncasville, CT, and his ex-wife of 25 years, CarolAnn Galiszuski. He was a cherished grandfather to Michael, Elizabeth Grace, and Sara Kate, who brought him immeasurable joy. Jack was predeceased by his daughter, Deborah M. Jacobs of Norwich, CT.

In retirement, Jack enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and was an active member of The Road Church in Stonington and a volunteer at the Pawcatuck Neighborhood Center food bank.

As we bid farewell to Jack, we celebrate a life well-lived, a man well-loved, and a legacy that will continue to inspire. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know him.

A memorial service will be held at The Road Church of Stonington at 903 Pequot Trail, Stonington, CT on Saturday, March 28th at 1:00 PM followed by a reception.
