Barbara Jean (Gold) Nerger was born in Tampa, Florida on November 15, 1933 to Thelma and Wallace Gold, and passed away on October 30, 2025. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 50+ years, Thomas B. Nerger, daughter Debby Cooper and son-in-law Dennis Cooper.
She is survived by son Charles Nerger, daughter Candie Nerger (Carol Corbin) and daughter and son-in-law Sandi Mullen and David Mullen.
Also grandson Duane Mullen (Jacqueline) and granddaughters Emilie Cooper, Amanda (Mullen) Clark (Bart) and Elizabeth Cooper (Travis Bedwell). And five great-grands who lovingly call her Gigi.
In the early days of building a life and family in Pensacola she enjoyed giving back to the community. She volunteered at what is now ARC Gateway helping children with CP learn to walk. She was also a Pink Lady at West Florida Hospital for 10 years and worked with The Daughters of the Nile (Hadji Shrine) and Junior Women's Club to raise funds for charity and secure wheelchairs for children. Her desire to comfort people started young when she spent time reading the Bible to the bridge-tender at the draw bridge close to home.
When she and dad were finally able to travel more, she turned more toward philanthropy and supported many charities for children and veterans. But her favorite was helping the Ronald McDonald House of Northwest Florida. Donating time and funds to help families from neighboring communities with children who were being treated in the hospital in Pensacola.
Mom and dad both loved traveling and meeting people from all over the world. Especially in their motor home after dad said he "wasn't going anywhere he couldn't drive to." Mom enjoyed spending time with her lady friends. Whether it was simply a game of bridge or lunch and a movie. Even a cruise to Alaska or bus trip to Nashville, ladies like Rachael Hilliard, Pat Grice and many more enriched her life so much.
Her last few years were a little rough on her, but she never lost faith and never gave up. In the end she got her two biggest wishes for the end of life. She often said " I want it to be fast and still have all my faculties". Rest in peace mom.
At mom's request there will not be a funeral. She will be interred with Tom at Barrancas National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers mom requested that donations be sent to Ronald McDonald House Charities of Northwest Florida.
