Barbara Jean Nickerson, a beacon of warmth and joy, passed away peacefully on August 9, 2025, at the age of 84. Born on September 13, 1940, Barbara's life was a tapestry of love, laughter, and the delicious aromas of home-cooked meals that will be cherished in memories and hearts forever.
Barbara's journey began as the beloved daughter of Manley and Delores Walters. She grew up surrounded by her siblings Mike, Cheri, and James, all of whom preceded her in death. Her life was further blessed by marriages to Gilbert Chester William JR Schnake and Tom Nickerson, both of whom she outlived, as well as her precious children Laura, Wendy, and Steve, daughter-in-law Sally, and great-granddaughter Ariel, who all left this world too soon.
She leaves behind a legacy of love through her family, including Jeff Schnake, Tammy Cox, Juanita Chalou, Rodney House, Joni (Dave) Edgette, Pam Walters, Jennifer Wise, daughter-in-law Brenda Schnake, 22 grandchildren: Kevin (Jamie) Sprague, Kendall (Ashley) Sprague, Kyle Sprague, Kayla Sprague, Katie (Michael) Diener, Joshua Fritz, Jonathon (Connie) Fritz, Rachael Fritz, Barry Thomas, Cassandra St Andrew, Kory (JJ) Schnake, Nick (Alicia) Schnake, Jared Schnake, Jeffery Schnake, Eric Schnake, Steve (Toneisha) Schnake, Dora Gill, John Pierson, Jamie Mayberry, Jess Hayes, Marc Walters, Carrie Maness, 39 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren, with two more on the way, as well as many adoring nieces and nephews.
Barbara's professional life was spent as a dedicated cook within the food service industry, where she not only shared her culinary skills but also her infectious laughter and creative spirit. Her passion for cooking extended far beyond her work, as she cherished preparing holiday feasts for her family, ensuring that every dish was made with love and care.
Her interests were a reflection of her nurturing soul; she found joy in baking, crocheting, quilting, and most of all, in the company of her family and friends. Barbara's hands were rarely still, as she was always creating something beautiful for those she loved.
Described by those who knew her best as loving, funny, and creative, Barbara's presence was a gift to all. Her sense of humor brought smiles to many faces, and her creative touch added beauty to the world around her.
As we bid farewell to Barbara Jean Nickerson, we celebrate a life well-lived, full of the joys of family, the satisfaction of work well done, and the pleasures of creativity. Her spirit will live on in the laughter at family gatherings, the warmth of a hand-crafted quilt, and the stories shared among the many lives she touched. Barbara's legacy is one of love, and it is with love that we will remember her always.
