Barbara Johanna Quinlin (Rettele) passed away on July 21st, 2025, after a long and fulfilled life of 100 years. Born on August 20th, 1924, in Seneca, KS to Thresia (Russ) and George Rettele, she was the last survivor as the 5th of 9 children.

When Barbara was just 19 years old, she moved to Wichita, Kansas. It was there she met the love-of-her-life, Charles Quinlin, during her time building B29 airplanes as he was serving in the United States Army. Barbara and Charles got married on August 11th, 1945, and from their union had two children, Barbara Jo and Steven. Afterwards, the Quinlin Family relocated to Kansas City, MO, to settle and establish their home.

Barbara worked for the Center School District #58 for 34 years, ensuring kids ate breakfast and lunch every day during the school year. She loved to cook for her family and her neighbors, as well as sew and patch clothes—sometimes patching the patches to ensure they’d get the most use out of them! Barbara deeply enjoyed playing cards and board games with her family and friends and get-togethers.

Our sweet and sassy, “Granny Q” as she was affectionately known, was always generous with her time and eager to help others, dedicating herself wholeheartedly to both her church and her family’s school communities. A devoted member of St. Augustine and Christ the King parishes for over 70 years, she lived her Catholic faith with unwavering commitment. Her faith was a constant source of strength, guidance, and inspiration throughout her life.

Barbara is survived by her two children, Barbara Jo Burnworth (Larry), and Steven Quinlin (Betty); five grandsons, Anthony Burnworth (Michele), Steven Burnworth (Tammy), Ryan Burnworth (Amy), Charles Quinlin, and Mark Quinlin; along with four great-grandchildren Jacob (Vanessa), Shelby, Brody, and Bailey; and two great-great-grandchildren Cameron and Colton. There are also many beloved nieces, nephews and friends that were special to her.

All services will be held at Christ the King Parish, 8510 Wornall Rd, Kansas City, on Thursday, July 31, 2025. The Visitation will begin at 9am, with Mass of Christian Burial following at 10am. There will be a formal procession to Calvary Cemetery, 6901 Troost Ave, Kansas City, where Barbara will be laid to rest with her family. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to: Christ the King Food Pantry and/or Christ the King Parish.
