OGDENSBURG - Funeral services for Barbara Rascoe, 68, of Ogdensburg, will be held on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at 5 p.m. at Frary Funeral Home with Hospice Chaplain John Youngblood officiating. Calling hours will be held before the service from 2–5 p.m. Barbara passed away on Sunday morning, November 16, 2025, on her favorite son-in-law's birthday, at her home, surrounded by her family and under the care of Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley.
Arrangements are under the direction of Frary Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Ogdensburg.
Barbara was born on October 3, 1957, in Ogdensburg. She was the daughter of Albert and Violet (Pike) Mattice and was lovingly raised by Anna Mae and Walter LaRue. She graduated from Heuvelton Central School and later attended Herkimer Community College. On June 1, 1980, she married Gerald Rascoe at their home on the East Road in Depeyster, a place where many great memories would be made. Barbara began her career as a secretary with the North Country Children's Clinic in Canton and worked her way up to Coordinator of the program. She retired in 2016 after a dedicated career of service to families in the community. She was a member of the Heuvelton Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and the Lions Club. She enjoyed BINGO, couponing, baking, cooking, and planning large family gatherings and reunions, because family meant so much to her and that was a value that she instilled in her children. Christmas was her favorite time of year, and she often adopted families in need to help provide a joyful holiday for their children.
She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Gerald Rascoe; her children: Daniel Rascoe of Ogdensburg, Anna Rascoe of LaFargeville, Mary Ferrick and her husband Shaun of DeKalb Junction, and Bev Martin and her companion Curtis Hall of Gouverneur. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren, who brought her so much joy, whether baking or playing games with: Gavin, Julian, Amayah, Jon, Amelia, Sadie, and Miles. Her brothers, Albert "Gus" Mattice and his companion Linda Szasz of Michigan, and Scott Hitsman and his companion Nancy Mandigo of Depeyster; and her sisters, Linda Hankins of Morristown and Brenda Mattice-Thurman and her husband Dan of Rochester also survive her. Also surviving are her sisters-in-law, Melanie Mattice of Rensselaer Falls and Bonnie Hitsman of Ogdensburg, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was predeceased by her infant son, Joseph Rascoe; her brothers Randy Hitsman, Douglas Mattice, and Robert Mattice (infancy); her brother-in-law Robert "Bob" Hankins; and her sister-in-law Liz Mattice.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley, especially Jackie and John.
Donations in Barbara's memory may be made to the Heuvelton Fire Department, 95 State Street, Heuvelton, NY 13654.
