Barbara Ratley, 84, of Fayetteville, passed away on Tuesday, May 6, 2025.
Barbara was a Special Education Teacher for over 30 years. She earned her bachelor’s and master’s degree from UNC Pembroke. The love of her family was always important to her. She was so proud of her children and grandchildren. Her hobbies included sewing, reading, and gardening.
She was born in Fayetteville, on January 26, 1941, to the late Herman Cain and Nellie Ambrose. Also preceding her in death were her husband, Jimmy Ratley; daughter, Suzanne Jackson; grandsons, Christopher Jackson, Noie Corney; and siblings, Patricia (Sissy) Lowry, Richard Ambrose, and Julian Ambrose.
Left to cherish Barbara’s memory are her children, Haywood Tew (Kay), Daniel M. Jackson (Dougetta), Lorraine Hadley, Billie Jackson Wood, Daniel Wade Ratley (Tammie); 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; siblings, Billy Ambrose, Rebecca Marshall, Deborah Kanode; beloved fur babies, Lilly and Carly; along with her extended family and many friends.
The family will welcome friends from 5 to 7pm on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at Sullivan’s Highland Funeral Service. The funeral is scheduled for 11am on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, in the chapel of Sullivan’s Highland Funeral Service. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery in St. Pauls.
