Barbara Ann (Monaco) Rosenhagen October 26, 1937 – November 8, 2025
Barbara Ann (Monaco) Rosenhagen, 88, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at Montgomery Nursing Home. She lived a long, fulfilling, and interesting life, and her presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Barbara was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend.
Born October 26, 1937 in Middletown, NY, Barbara was the younger daughter of Thomas and Catherine (Kuprych) Monaco. She was proud of her large, close-knit family and celebrated both her Italian and Ukrainian heritages throughout her life. After graduating from Middletown High School, she married the love of her life, Albert Rosenhagen, in July 1955. They shared more than fifty years together until Albert's passing in 2009. Their life together was full of adventure, as Albert's Air Force career took them and their family all over the world - most notably living in Hawaii and Germany, where they created many lasting memories and friendships until his retirement. After Albert's retirement, they moved back to their native Middletown to be with their families.
Barbara was beloved by everyone who knew her. She was witty, beautiful and the consummate life of the party and cared deeply for her family and her many friends.
She is survived by her three sons: Joseph (Jayne) of Middletown, Michael (Oonagh Ledwith) of Scottsdale, AZ, and Mark of Charleston, WV. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren: Jennifer Traverse (Erich), Jessica Guarneri (Kevin), Chase (Taylor), Connor, Trevor, James, and Maggie Rosenhagen; and by her adored great-granddaughters: Katherine Traverse, Julianna and Annabelle Guarneri, and her newly arrived great-grandson Arthur Rosenhagen.
Barbara was predeceased by her husband Albert, her sister Mary Reynolds, and her beloved niece Barbara Davenport as well as many other aunts, uncles, cousins and relatives.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 14, 2025, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, November 15th at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, followed by interment at Wallkill Cemetery.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Barbara's many friends and neighbors for their love and support, and to the staff at Montgomery Nursing Home for their compassionate care over the past year and a half.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Barbara's memory to the Middletown Humane Society, honoring her lifelong love and devotion to animals, particularly her cat Billy.
