Barbara Louise Schulte
February 9, 1946 – December 31, 2025
Barbara Louise Schulte, lovingly known as "Barbie," passed away peacefully on December 31, 2025, at the age of 79. She was a woman of grace, intellect, and quiet joy whose kindness left a lasting impression on all who knew her.
Born on February 9, 1946, Barbara was the daughter of Margaret Martin and William J. Woodworth. She was preceded in death by her beloved brother, Thomas Woodworth, who passed in February of 2025. Barbara is survived by her devoted husband and lifelong best friend, Joseph "Joey" Schulte, with whom she shared a beautiful life and enduring love.
Barbara and Joe's love story began among library stacks, where she was helping Joe-a science teacher-find astronomy books, including Sky & Telescope magazine. She later told her mother that he looked like someone who could use a good meal. From that simple, charming beginning grew a partnership filled with curiosity, laughter, and adventure.
Barbara graduated from Maryville College in Tennessee and went on to earn a Master's Degree in Library Science from Florida State University. She dedicated 30 years of service as Head Librarian at Central High School, where her love of learning, mathematics, and mentorship shaped generations of students. Her career reflected her belief in education as a gift meant to be shared.
Outside of work, Barbara found joy in life's simple pleasures and grand adventures alike. She adored snowmen, cats, handwritten letters, and faithfully sending birthday cards to those she loved. She delighted in friendly Scrabble competitions with her brother Tom, and her family cherished the thoughtful notes and letters she so lovingly wrote by hand.
Barbara and Joe shared an extraordinary love of travel, taking 107 cruises together over the years-from the Caribbean to Alaska. She loved meeting new friends at dinner, sharing stories, and soaking in the wonder of the world alongside Joe. She also loved driving the boat during charters with him; in fact, Joe named one of his dive boats The Barbara L.
Barbara's voice was gentle, and her optimism seemed endless. She had a way of bringing calm, encouragement, and light wherever she went. To her nieces, she was the picture of positivity, courage, and steady support-the bright presence that kept them near and dear.
Barbara Louise Schulte will be remembered for her gentle voice, endless optimism, and unwavering kindness. Her legacy lives on in the many lives she touched, the students she inspired, and the love she shared so freely.
She will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
