Barbara Ethel (Hilbert) Shannon, age 84, of St. Ignace, Michigan, passed peacefully on Thursday, December 18, 2025, at Mackinac Straits Hospital in St. Ignace. She was born on October 5, 1941, in Ozark, Michigan, to Walter and Mary (Lovegrove) Hilbert.

Barbara grew up in Ozark before later moving with her parents and sister, Retha, to Trout Lake, Michigan. She attended Rudyard High School, where she graduated. In 1959, Barbara married Don J. Shannon, and the couple made their home in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. In 1963, they moved to Morrice, Michigan, where they raised their three children. Barbara worked for thirty years at Memorial Health Care Hospital as a nurse technician.

Barbara lived out her faith as a lifelong and devoted member of the Grace Brethren Church.

Barbara had a deep love for gospel quartet music and, over the years, attended many concerts throughout Michigan, Indiana, and Kentucky. She enjoyed taking bus trips, participating in a gospel music cruise, and made many lasting friendships along the way. Barbara amassed a large collection of cassette tapes and videos of her favorite gospel music artists. In addition to her love of music, she enjoyed gardening and took great pride in planting and tending to a variety of flowers gifted to her by friends and family.

Barbara is survived by her son, Don (Marlene) Shannon; daughters, Brenda (Kevin) Garey and Debbie (Dale) Dohr; grandchildren, David (Aaryn) Temple, Nathan Garey, Chris Shannon, Megan (Lucas) Streeter, Shane Helps, and Kyle Dohr; and great-grandchildren, Addison Dickerson, Jaxon Streeter, Evelyn Streeter, and Nolan Streeter.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 29 years, Don Shannon; great-grandchild, Noah Streeter; parents, Walter and Mary; sister, Retha Hilbert; and seven half-brothers and half-sisters.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the Morrice Senior Center, 101 W. Mason Street, Morrice, Michigan 48857.

A graveside service will be held in the spring of 2026 at Ozark Grace Brethren Church Cemetery in Ozark, Michigan.
