Barbara Sophia Siek, age 87, passed away peacefully at her home in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, on September 5, 2025. Born in Hamburg, Germany, of Greek and German heritage, Barbara later settled in the United States, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics from Boston University and became fluent in several languages.

She spent many years working in professional tennis sports management and served as a certified USTA umpire, sharing her passion for the sport both on and off the court. Her nickname for years on the tennis court was "Big Red." A vibrant member of the Steamboat Springs community since 1989, Barbara was well known for her enthusiasm for tennis, pickleball, travel, animals (she loved her dog, Annie), and community bridge. Her lively spirit and commitment to staying youthful and active fostered many enduring friendships over the years.

Barbara is survived by her only child, James Christopher Archer, of Atlanta, Georgia, and maintained a close relationship with step-son, Bradford Allen Siek, and Laura Vansyckle Siek, daughter-in-law, of Brooksville, FL.

In lieu of flowers, her family asks that donations be made to the Routt County Council on Aging and the Routt County Humane Society. To honor her wishes, no services will be held.
