Barbara Sobas

Barbara Sobas of Garden City, passed away on February 5th surrounded by her family.

She was born October 9th, 1940 to Hazel Marie Montgomery(Wagner) and Cecil Augustus Montgomery in Detroit, Michigan. Barbara grew up with many siblings and loved her sisters and brothers including Audrey, Patricia, Margie, Shirley, Virginia, Walter(Bud), Earl(Sonny), Donald, and Danny.

Barbara enjoyed listening to music, watching movies, and reading. Her favorite musicians were Elvis Presley, Neil Diamond, Josh Groban, and Bob Segar. She loved watching disney classics, action, and mystery movies. Barbara greatly appreciated conversation with her loved ones, and stayed up to date with the happenings in each of their lives.

Barbara believes in the power of prayer and her loved ones will always be grateful for her prayers and love. She was very active in her church community; teaching 1st and 2nd grade catechism, working the annual festivals and being a devoted Eucharistic Minister. Barb shared her spirituality and love for Jesus with her siblings and successfully encouraged them all to be baptized prior to their passing.

Barb's loving, nurturing and protective nature was shared across her children, grandchildren, our many cousins and friends as we were growing up.

We will all miss her hugs, but we know she is with us in spirit and in our memories. We will strive to carry her legacy of love forward.

Beloved wife of Donald Sobas for 65 years. Loving mother to Midge(Steve) Elkins, Roxanne(Daryl) Jenks, Kevin(Amy) Sobas, Scott(Melanie) Sobas, Joe(Charlotte) Sobas, and the late Kellie(Randy) Ryan. Cherished Grandma to Candice(Matt), Aaron(Nick), Mark(Christy), Michael(Krysten), Joshua(Marina), Amanda(Nik), Evann(Taylor), Jacob, Tyler, Noah, Weston, Nicholas, Christopher, Venessa, and 13 Great Grandchildren. Barbara is also dearly loved and will be deeply missed by many nieces, nephews, family members, and friends.

The funeral service will be held on Friday February 13th, with the Rosary being prayed at 10:00 a.m. Visitation is available from 10:00-11:00 a.m. with the Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m.; all at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church 31530 Beechwood Ave, Garden City, MI
